Most modification work arrives as a clearance problem. Something does not fit, and the options are to change the something or change the body around it. Wider wheels need tubs, lowered suspension needs notches, bigger tires need arches opened up, and a swapped engine needs mounts and often a firewall that is not where the factory put it.

The part people underestimate is that all of it is structural. A wheel tub is part of the body's strength. A frame notch removes material from a rail. Doing this well is less about cutting and more about putting back what the cut took away.

What gets modified

Wheel tubs, widened or rebuilt for tire clearance, which on most cars means rebuilding the inner structure rather than just the visible panel.

Frame notches for suspension travel, which need reinforcement above and below the notch to replace the section removed.

Arches opened up or flared, formed rather than cut and filled.

Firewalls and transmission tunnels reshaped for engine swaps.

Mounts, brackets and reinforcements for anything being fitted that the vehicle was never designed to carry.

Cutting is the easy half

Every cut into a body or a frame removes strength that was doing something. A notch in a frame rail is a section removed from a beam, and the reinforcement plate that goes back has to carry the load the missing metal was carrying, tied in over a long enough distance that it does not just move the problem to the end of the plate.

Tubs are the same. The inner arch on a unibody is structure, and widening one without replacing the bracing gives you a car that flexes differently and cracks somewhere you were not looking.

So the plan comes before the grinder. What the cut removes, what carries it afterwards, and where that reinforcement terminates.

How a body modification runs

Tell us the goal, not the cutWhat has to fit and what the car is for. There is often a better way to get there. 216.309.1567.
Measure clearancesIncluding at full suspension travel and full lock, not just parked.
Plan the reinforcementWhat the cut removes and what replaces it, before anything is cut.
Cut and fabricateSections formed to match the surrounding shape.
Weld and reinforceTied into structure over distance rather than terminated square.
Check it worksCycled through travel and lock before it leaves.

When a modification is a bad idea

Modifications that compromise structure with no way to put the strength back, and anything that makes a road vehicle unsafe. You get told why rather than just no.

Custom body modifications questions

Can you tub a car for wider wheels?

Yes. The part that matters is rebuilding the inner structure, because the inner arch is doing a structural job on most unibody cars. A tub that only replaces the visible panel gives you a car that flexes differently.

Do you notch frames for lowered suspension?

Yes, with reinforcement above and below sized to carry what the removed section was carrying, tied in over enough distance that the stress does not concentrate at the end of the plate.

Can you fabricate engine mounts for a swap?

Yes, and that is common work. Bring the vehicle and the engine, or accurate measurements of both. Guessing at mount geometry from photos does not work.

Do you do the fabrication for someone else's design?

Yes. If you have a plan we will build to it, and if we think something about it will not work we will say so before cutting rather than after.
