Some things cannot come to the shop, and the ones that cannot are usually the ones costing money every hour they sit. A trailer with a cracked tongue is not safe to tow anywhere, including to a shop. A gate that has dropped off its hinge is holding a yard open. A machine with a cracked bucket ear is not going on a trailer without a bigger trailer.
Mobile work exists for exactly that. The welder goes to the yard, the site, the driveway or the roadside, and the thing gets fixed where it is. Most of it is stick and MIG, because outdoors in wind is where stick still earns its keep.
Trailers that are not safe to tow. Cracked tongues, torn hinges, broken coupler mounts and split cross members.
Heavy equipment. Bucket ears, blade mounts, boom cracks and the mounting points that take shock loads all day.

Where the shop wins is on anything that needs the bench, the vice or good light. Fine fabrication, aluminum work and anything needing the part off the vehicle is better done on Corlett Ave.
So the first question is always which one is actually cheaper for you, and you get told that before booking rather than after. Sometimes the answer is that towing it in is the better deal.
